Common Owner is an online Funding Portal that facilitates investments in real estate projects and businesses through online crowdfunding. Our clients range from new real estate developers raising funds for their first project, to experienced small developers looking to tap into another source of funding, to nonprofits looking for gap financing for a project, and more.
On the other side of our marketplace, we give the average person access to these investment opportunities. This kind of investing was almost solely accessible to high-net worth individuals and investment companies from 1933 until 2016.
Our team’s background in historic preservation and tax credit syndication has led us to develop ways to utilize crowdfunding to enable small and medium-sized developers to monetize tax credits that would otherwise be challenging to benefit from. This experience, coupled with our offering structure flexibility, and community-focused approach is what makes Common Owner a unique funding portal.

We want to better understand and size our target market and the overall market, so we can uniquely position ourselves within our industry and in front of potential investors for our pre-seed round. We would like to collaborate with students to conduct market research and competitive analysis. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with our company’s values, products and services. Researching our target market and market potential. Researching the industry and competitive landscape. Recommending strategies to improve our positioning, brand, products and services (i.e. SWOT analysis) Bonus steps in the process would also include: Recommending strategies to differentiate ourselves from our competition.
SEO and Social Media Strategy
Our team is looking to take our social media presence to the next level in order to drive traffic to our pages. To do this, we hope to improve our search engine optimization, and create an optimal schedule for our social media posts to be uploaded. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Demonstrate an understanding of Common Owner's target market, current approach to that market, and business goals Researching keywords to determine the most relevant terms that our customers search for. Researching Search Engine Optimization requirements for us to rank on the first page of Google for our target market Constructing a content calendar to upload social media content for the maximum possible traffic . Creating social media content using the most efficient keywords for our target audience while following the content calendar. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Identify important digital marketing metrics to measure, gather a baseline of these metrics, and set goals for them Using our company’s social media analytics to tailor the content calendar to our customers activity, rather than general trends Identifying additional content that can support social media content efforts, such as blog post topics
