Student goals and capabilities

The purpose of this course is to provide advanced knowledge in the area of human behavior in organizations. It examines selected major topics related to individual, group, and organizational processes. An awareness of the issues surrounding organizational behavior is a critical component of a company’s ability to thrive and be competitive. An understanding of organizational behaviour can shape the way we view the workplace, and enable us to function more effectively within it.

Students are looking to analyze and understand the human side of an organization. This can include understanding the impact of power politics, personality, motivations, performance management and employee engagement. They will be able to conduct simple assessments of these features and provide high-level feedback.

Project Examples

Students are able to conduct research in to these topics. This could come in the form of scientific literature reviews, quantitative or qualitative assessments of their organization.

Questions that students can look in to can include (but are not at all limited to):

- How engaged are your employees?

- What contributes to job satisfaction (ie flexibility in work hours, team vs individual work, diversity in workplace)?

- What is the prominent "personality" in your organization (introversion vs extroversion)?

- How is performance management handled in your team? How successful is this?

- How satisfied are employees with diversity and inclusion in the organization? What are your employees' attitudes towards your diversity policies?

Based on their findings from researching these areas, they can create a simple assessment and provide high-level advice to implement.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
