PROJECT SCOPE

Positions Available: One individual student

Thrive for Good has four pillars in their African community development program . The last one is developing income generation through small scale organic farms that cooperatively work together.

The challenge for small scale farmers in Africa is having the ability to cover all the bases from production to sales. Cooperatively several farmers can work together to have someone else sell their market garden produce enabling them to focus on production.

The challenge as in most cases is coordinating sales with production.

See Ted Talk below for more information to understand farming challenges -

Deliverables

We need to develop series of connected excel sheets that can aggregate all the information for sale forecasting to production.

A simple dashboard on Excel would be created to input weekly sales demand forecasted over a quarter for each crop that could then be translated into the number of garden beds needed to meet that demand. A third sheet would create a planting schedule

The sheets needed would be as follows

Sheet 1 - Sales Dashboard giving amount in pounds of each crop needed per week for that quarter and the number of beds needed to produce that amount

Sheet 2 Produce delivered which would create total sales for that month

Sheet 3 Planting schedule for each crop to maintain sales prediction

Sheet 4 What and where was that crop planted

Mentorship

Founder will work with the designer on a weekly basis to finish the project

Thrive for Good empowers people to grow health and step out of poverty by cultivating Life Gardens.

Globally, we’re better than ever at filling bellies with sheer calories. But food doesn’t equal nutrition.

2 billion people living on low-cost diets don’t get the vitamins, minerals and micronutrients they need for life. Kids don’t get enough nutrients to develop and grow strong. Adults can’t stay healthy to provide for their families.

Thrive is teaching and equipping people to grow an abundance of healthy, organic, disease-fighting foods - sustainably.

Life Gardens make this transformation possible. Well-nourished children get sick less often and perform better in school. Adults can fight disease, so fewer children are orphaned. With health and the skills to generate an income from growing surplus food, they can take hold of a life beyond poverty.

For just $15, you can give one person everything they need to grow their own health for life.
