Environmental Health Outreach for Racialized Communities in North Edmonton

Racialized and low-income communities in North Edmonton face disproportionate exposure to environmental health risks due to proximity to industrial sites, traffic corridors, and lack of green infrastructure. These communities often have limited access to information about how environmental factors impact their health, and few culturally appropriate resources to support advocacy or prevention. Students will address this gap by researching local environmental health challenges, applying a lens of environmental racism and social justice, and creating accessible, community-facing outreach tools. By the end of the project, students are expected to produce materials that help raise awareness, promote individual and collective action, and support the partner organization’s broader advocacy and education goals.

Mapping Housing Access for Youth Facing Homelessness in West Edmonton

In West Edmonton, many youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness face barriers accessing safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing. Our organization wants to better understand the gaps in existing supports and identify possible intervention points. Learners will address this challenge by engaging in community-based research and mapping available services. The expected outcome is a clearer picture of what exists, what’s missing, and how we can strengthen supports for youth. This project aligns with SDG #1 (No Poverty), SDG #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG #10 (Reduced Inequalities).
